Direct Access - What are We Waiting For?
Description
Despite direct access being possible for 35 years and intense efforts to promote institutional (hospital/health system) approval of the direct access model, why do so few patients directly access our services? Why do some third-party payers continue to ignore the evidence and maintain internal policies requiring a physician referral? In response to the painfully slow process of integrating direct access into daily clinical practice, APTA Wisconsin has updated its Direct Access Tool Kit. This session will provide an overview of the revised resource and explore commonly cited external and internal (within the profession) challenges and highlight innovative strategies to overcome these challenges. The session’s primary goal is for participants to leave confident in their ability to implement a carefully staged plan starting from idea generation to administrative approval, to piloting the model, and last, to full implementation. Join in on the discussion!
