Course Description:
Craniofacial pain (commonly referred to temporomandibular disorders (TMD)) is a common musculoskeletal condition that often leads to persistent pain for patients. There is emerging evidence for physical therapy interventions in the management of craniofacial pain. Also, there is a known relationship between craniofacial pain and impairments of the cervical spine. This lab-based course will present intervention options for patients with craniofacial pain including direct treatments to the temporomandibular joint and the upper cervical spine.
Objectives:
-
Identify common clinical findings associated with craniofacial pain and upper cervical dysfunction.
-
Integrate manual therapy skills to address impairments of the temporomandibular and upper cervical joints and soft tissue.
-
Integrate appropriate therapeutic exercises for management of symptoms associated with craniofacial pain and upper cervical dysfunction.
