This course will consist of two sessions, a pre-course asynchronous session and a live session.
One week before the course registered participants will be sent a two hour recording to review the pre-course session virtually to provider supporting foundational knowledge for the live session. At the end of the virtual session a short quiz will be provided to assess knowledge and verity completion. The quiz will be handed in, completed, by each participant at the live session.
Pre-course Asynchronous Virtual Session
Virtual lecture by Dan Krueger and Joe Kucksdorf
- The pre-course virtual session will review the APTA Neck Pain Clinical Practice guidelines and focus on medical screening as well as safety considerations when implementing cervical manual therapy examination and treatment as part of care.
- Focus on cervical red flag screening. How to identify non-musculoskeletal issues that need to be referred out. Also look at red flag screening from the perspective of being able to perform cervical manipulations safely with patients.
- Discuss the utilization of the cervical clinical practice guidelines with a focus on its utilization to identify those patients who would benefit from manipulations.
Sunday February 25, 8 am – 5 pm

- Case based skill practice for cervical mobilizations and manipulations. Heavy focus on manual skill / techniques, but within the context of clinical reasoning on when to and when not to implement manipulations. This course will focus on getting clinicians confident and competent in being able to not only perform cervical manipulations but also have the clinical reasoning behind implementing them safely. Case based learning style will allow for clinicians to work through the process of clearing red flags, assessing patient for proper safety for using cervical manipulations, and then being able to assess if the treatment provided benefit to the patient.
- Thoracic manipulations will also be covered from the perspective of regional interdependency for addressing cervical conditions.
- Lab clothing required: athletic attire, please dress in layers for your comfort based on room temperature.
The live session will use case-based learning, covering two real-world, outpatient orthopedic neck pain cases. Each of the cases will reference and demonstrate the application of material provided in the virtual, pre-course session. This will include application of the APTA Neck Pain Clinical Practice Guideline examination, classification, and treatment. The active learning experience will use peer and team-based learning strategies in an interactive environment. Application of patient-centered and evidence-informed practice will be included with an emphasis on clinical reasoning and meta-cognitive processes. Hands-on labs will be incorporated into the session, covering case-appropriate examination and treatment, including key manual therapy (cervical/thoracic mobilization and manipulation) techniques.
Speaker Biographies:
Erik Gregersen PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, is a fellowship trained board certified orthopedic clinical specialist. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist and CrossFit Level 1 trainer. Erik works at Froedtert Health in an outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine setting. He splits his time between patient care, program development, and mentoring in their residency and fellowship program. He also is an owner of an out of network private practice where he primarily sees athletic/active individuals that compete in CrossFit, Olympic Lifting, and other sports.
Joe Kucksdorf PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, has over 14 years of clinical experience. He is fellowship trained and board certified orthopedic clinical specialist maintaining an active outpatient orthopedic clinical practice. He oversees quality and professional development for Bellin Health’s Sports Medicine and Orthopedic service line. He is adjunct faculty with Bellin College DPT and OMPT Fellowship programs, Evidence in Motion, and currently completing his Doctorate of Clinical Science in physical therapy with Bellin College. He has served multiple leadership positions with APTA Wisconsin.
Dan Krueger, PT, DPT, OCS, has over 9 years of experience working in outpatient orthopedic facilities. He completed an orthopedic residency through Evidence in Motion in 2016 and is currently completing an orthopedic manual physical therapy fellowship through Bellin College. He also manages Bellin’s Ashwaubenon Physical Therapy clinic and is coordinator for Bellin’s orthopedic residency in partnership with Evidence in Motion.
