This course explores the principles and practical applications of power and speed training for both athletes and the general population. Participants will consider individual muscle fibers, including muscle fiber changes with injury and aging, as well as investigate specific exercise programs to improve performance in sport and life. Whether working with individuals on elite athletic performance or improving the daily movements of the general population, attendees will leave with insights on how to optimize power and speed training for patients of all fitness levels.
Course Objectives
● Examine muscle fiber type and how it changes with injury and aging
● Recognize specific outcomes that matter to both athletes and the general population
● Discuss strength, power, and speed protocols that can allow for return to performance in both sport and life
About The Speaker(s)
Lukas Ryan PT, DPT, OCS
Lukas Ryan is a physical therapist and assistant professor in sport and exercise science at Wisconsin Lutheran College. He is a board certified orthopaedic clinical specialist through the APTA, as well as sports health specialist, performance running specialist, and performance throwing specialist through Aurora Sports Health. He maintains his clinical practice but now works full-time at Wisconsin Lutheran College where he teaches courses such as: Fitness Assessment & Exercise Prescription, Exercise Physiology, Prevention & Care of Athletic Injuries, and Cognitive and Behavior Changes in Sport & Exercise Science.
