Description

This dynamic and fun two-hour session will use case-based learning, covering a real-world, outpatient orthopedic case with case based discussion to facilitate an active learning experience. Application of patient-centered and evidence-informed practice will be included with an emphasis on clinical reasoning and meta-cognitive processes utilizing the test retest model. The session is designed to help learners understand how to effectively obtain a thorough subjective examination that supports hypothesis development, planning of an appropriate objective examination and supportive treatment that seek to implement the hypothetico-deductive reasoning model.

Course Objectives:

  • Overview of the hypothetico-deductive reasoning model, why it is an effective management framework for approaching patient care
  • Understand how to effectively obtain a thorough subjective examination that supports hypothesis development and also elicits the patient’s perspectives and goals
  • Planning of an appropriate objective examination that is thoughtful and leverages intent and an appropriate level of vigor to confidently rule in/out competing hypotheses
  • Supportive treatment that matches patient presentation and goals
  • Leveraging the hypothetico-deductive reasoning model in patient with multiple pain areas or chief complaints to help you streamline an approach for effective patient management
