Lecture: PT as a Standard of Care in the Childbearing Season
Course Objectives:
- Review which muscles/systems of the body pregnancy and birth effect which then need to recover in the postpartum year
- Ponder how PTs can really step into the preventative role with pregnant, birthing and postpartum clients
- Explore the role of pelvic trained DPTs as primary care providers for postpartum period (year+)
- Prioritize the recovery of the mother’s body as a priority for overall health
Presented by Abby Inman, PT, DPT
Abby Inman has been specializing in pelvic/women’s health PT since her third year of PT school. She has loved seeing the explosion of the specialty, and has really settled into pregnancy, birth, optimal postpartum recovery as her own niche. Abby teaches a childbirth class education class called “Labor like a Rockstar” and attends births as a labor support person. She passionately believes that pelvic PT/postpartum PT should be a standard of care and is working diligently towards making that happen. She’s currently mostly serving in her role as mama but works part time for Sword Bloom and sees private clients in their homes.
